Set in a dystopian future where corporate brands have created a disillusioned population, one man’s effort to unlock the truth behind the conspiracy will lead to an epic battle with hidden forces that control the world.
“The most powerful weapon on earth today is not a gun or a disease, nor is it even visible to many.“
You have to watch the trailer with no less than 97 QR codes and familiar logos with different names. “Bentucky Rried Dhicken“, anyone?

As if the thought of corporate dominance wasn’t depressing enough…
“It is marketing. Marketing is the power to control your desires and change your mind, and if you look closer there is something about it that is not of this earth.“
Marketing is inescapable in today’s day and age. Even here we’re part of a well-oiled machine that gets people interested in movies, though that’s mainly because we love good storytelling. But with marketing being so prominent, it was only a matter of time before someone told a story that would call attention to it in the form of a sci-fi thriller with strange creatures composed of ads, soda bottles and more, right?
Sounds pretty damn heavy. Thankfully Jeffrey Tambor is in the cast, likely to bring a little levity to the scene. Still, mind-control movies are always interesting, and usually scary to boot. Expect the same with Branded, would be my inkling.
Branded looks interesting but I would rather the aliens’ presence was more subtle. The effects remind the viewer of The Darkest Hour and Skyline, two films it should strive to avoid. They Live seems to be the goal here.
After Misha skyrockets to the top of the advertising business, a tragic mishap on the set of one of his productions torpedoes his career and he retreats into self-imposed exile. Ten years later, Misha returns to a radically changed world and finds himself plagued by visions of bizarre and terrifying creatures with the ability to influence peoples thoughts, desires and actions. Creatures only he can see.
He soon realizes the creatures are part of a clandestine campaign unleashed by a rival advertising agency to make fat the new fabulous and create a new era of uncontrolled consumer appetite. In order to save mankind, Misha uses his own considerable marketing skills to launch an ingenious plan to try to eradicate the plague. But the corporate legions will not go down without a fight.
Branded, originally titled The Mad Cow, will hit theaters this September possibly concurrent with a VOD release.
What do you think of the schizophrenic world of Branded?
