This time, Liam Neeson’s wife is taken.

‘Taken 2‘ Trailer - In Istanbul, retired CIA operative Bryan Mills and his wife are taken hostage by the father of a kidnapper Mills killed while rescuing his daughter.

Taken 2 is the sequel to the surprise action thriller hit starring Liam Neeson, and now the time has come to see retired CIA operative Bryan Mills in action as an international trailer for the flick has just surfaced.

The new international trailer for the film focuses more on our hero’s attempts to rescue his wife (who is taken hostage) by working together with his daughter. Assuming this preview isn’t an example of misdirection – which could be the case – it seems that Mills will only be a hostage himself for a limited portion of Taken 2.

“He slaughtered our men, our brothers, our sons. We’ll find him. We will have our revenge.”

For the remainder of the film’s running time, Mills will undoubtedly be doing what he does best: snapping necks, firing guns, and smashing any baddie who threatens the safety of his family. That guy’s quite a kick-ass dad, isn’t he?

I also really like the Istanbul setting, and how the production seems to be taking a bit more advantage of the scenery than they did the first time around– maybe the budget increases have served them well.

While there’s a half-ass attempt to replicate the thrill of the cell phone scene from the first film between Neeson and his daughter (Maggie Grace), the trailer still packs a lot of punch, and should be a great treat for fans this fall.

No matter what, though, the surprising joy I got out of the original Taken, means I’ll be all over Taken 2 come October 5– this is the rare instance where, if a sequel does nothing but repeat the first one, I’ll be perfectly happy.

Liam Neeson returns as Bryan Mills, the retired CIA agent with a “particular set of skills” who stopped at nothing to save his daughter Kim from kidnappers. When the father of one of the villains Bryan killed swears revenge, and takes Bryan and his wife hostage in Istanbul, Bryan enlists Kim to help them escape.

Bryan then employs his unique tactics to get his family to safety and systematically take out the kidnappers, one by one.
