Magnolia Pictures has posted the first trailer for the upcoming horror film V/H/S and as an extra special bonus it happens to be a red band trailer. Be warned that this is definitely not safe for work!

Every year brings yet another indie horror film that earns big buzz on the festival circuit, and then blows up into a box office phenomenon. Saw, Paranormal Activity - the list goes on.

A contender to be the big horror success story of 2012 is V/H/S, a short film anthology consisting of five chapters of what some people say is one of the scariest films in years (never heard that before). But then again, judging from the trailer, there is a legitimate chance that V/H/S could make good on its claim.

There is something kind of creepy about older film technologies. While Blu-rays and DVDs are so clean and digital, VHS, beta and film have this strange worn quality of antiquity where secrets can hide.

While the trailer suggests an incoherent mess, there seems to be enough of a central storyline to hold the videos together. On top of this, the film features plenty of blood and shocks to keep the casual horror fan happy, as well as exhibiting the talents of filmmakers like West and Bruckner.

Seems like independent horror films are what’s driving this genre now, and this film is no exception. A great horror film with a great mood and a lot of scary and gory scenes. One of the year’s best, potentially.
